Outlet Shoppes Breaks Ground
Horizon Group officially broke ground on the long-awaited $50 million Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City at noon on Thursday. The formal ceremony took place at the shops’ new address at 7725 W. Reno, at the northeast corner of I-40 and Council Road.
Speakers included Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett, Roy Williams, president of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber and Horizon Group president and CEO Gary Skoien.
Major retailers have already signed up for 80% of the 320,000-sq.-ft. center, including Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, Nike, Coach, Brooks Brothers, Under Armour, Banana Republic, Gap, Guess, Chico's, Tommy Hilfiger and Nine West.
Horizon Group expects to open the mall in time for the 2011 holiday shopping season.
The outlet mall was first planned to break ground in 2008, but the slumping national economy put those plans on hold. Earlier this month, the Oklahoma City Council approved a new package of incentives, including spending nearly $4 million on infrastructure improvements, to kickstart the mall’s development once again.
According to the city, the mall is expected to generate $106 million in annual retail sales and $4.1 million in annual sales tax revenues.
